MAPUSA: Waste Management Minister Michael Lobo has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman requesting to issue a circular through Reserve Bank of India instructing all the national banks not to declare loan account as non-performing account (NPA).
The Minister said, “The letter is written on behalf of all the people in the State, who are running hand to mouth businesses, including hand carts, taxis operators, pilots, vegetable sellers and such people who have suffered in the second wave and were unable to pay the loan installments.”
Lobo said, “Banks are calling the people and asking them to pay their installments otherwise their accounts will be declared as NPA.”
“I have urged the PM and FM requesting to issue instructions to the banks to carry forward the loans for six months and wait for the businesses to start. We are not asking for waiver of loan but to give us more six months time and also not to put penalty on the interest,” Lobo said.
