CURCHOREM: Khamamoll-Curchorem residents were hit with the overwhelming stench of rotting food waste on Thursday afternoon when a suction machinery tanker carrying garbage from the Saligao Solid Waste Management Plant to Cacora (Curchorem) Solid Waste Management Plant spilled its contents on the busy road. The lid of the tanker burst open as it was climbing a slope near the railway over bridge, sending a wave of waste cascading down onto the road.
Despite the efforts of the fire personnel from Curchorem Fire and Emergency Services who arrived to clean up the mess by spraying water, and removing the garbage, the stench remained, leaving nearby residents to suffer. The incident also led to a traffic jam on the stretch.
The Chairperson of Curchorem-Cacora Municipal Council, Dr Jasmine Braganza, assured residents that she would send a market inspector to inspect the site and take necessary action
