Lokayukta names grassroots politicians who failed to submit statement of assets

PANJIM: Two former Panjim Mayors and a Deputy Mayor are amongst the public functionaries who have failed to submit statements of their assets and liabilities for the year ending March 2017 to the Goa Lokayukta. 
The Lokayukta office has made names of councilors, zilla panchayat members, sarpanchas and panch members public for failing to submit the statement of their assets and liabilities. 
Former Mayor Vaidehi Naik, Shubham Chodankar , ex deputy Mayor Lata Parekh, councilors Kishore Shastry, Reshma Karishetty, Dinesh Salgaonkar, Pascoela Mascarenhas, Menino Da Cruz, Shubhada Shirgaonkar, Arti Halankar and Rupesh Halankar have failed to submit their financial statement. 
In all 18 ZP members failed to submit the details – 12 from South Goa and six from the North. 
Also, the records show that only 171 elected representatives at the village panchayat level have submitted their details. 
Under Section 21 (I) of the Goa Lokayukta Act 2011, every public functionary falling within the purview of the Lokayukta for the purpose of investigation under the Act, is required to file a statement of the assets and liabilities held by him or her or any other person on his behalf within six months from the date he enters his office and thereafter before June 30, every year. 
“If no such statement is received by the Lokayukta from any such public functionary within the time specified, the Lokayukta shall make a report to that effect to the competent authority and send a copy of the report to the public functionary concerned,” it stated. 
Even if within two months, the public functionary fails to submit the report, the names would be made public.
