PANJIM: The Goa Congress demanded that Lokayukta B Sudershan Reddy take suo motto cognizance of massive corruption taking place in the renovation of his own office and residence, since the work is not tendered.
“The renovation is being executed without tendering by the public works department. He should take suo motto cognizance of this illegality,” Congress party spokesman told a press conference.
Reddy is temporarily lodged in the government guest house at Altinho, Panjim since assuming office as Lokayukta in March 2013.
The party also alleged favouritism, pointing out that the PWD had granted the contract to a particular contractor without following the tendering processes.
In addition to this, the Congress also alleged that PWD minister Ramkrishna Dhavalikar has illegally posted 150 youth from his constituency to various divisions of PWD.
He said that for last eight months they are working without recruitment letter and salary, with the hope that they would be recruited in government services, he said.
However, the PWD later refuted these allegations. Principal Chief Engineer J J S Rego said that PWD has engaged the services of around 148 people for the specific purpose of toll collection which began since April this year.
“The file has been sent to the chief minister for their regularisation and salary payment,” Rego said.
On an average 24 persons are required for each toll booth at the six entry points where entry tax is being collected.
“It is a very specific purpose,” he said, adding that there was nothing illegal about it.
