Loliem Residents Unanimously Reject Film City Proposal, Vow to Preserve Cultural Heritage and Plateaus

In a significant development during the Ordinary Gram Sabha Meeting on November 26, 2023, the residents of Loliem came together to unanimously reject the proposal for establishing a Film City in their village. The resolution, supported by 250 villagers present at the meeting, underscores their firm stance against the project.

The decision mandates the Loliem-Polem Village Panchayat to promptly dispatch letters to key stakeholders, including the Comunidade of Loliem, the Entertainment Society of Goa, the Chief Minister of Goa, the Administrator of Comunidades (South Zone), the Environment Minister of Goa, and the MLA of Canacona Constituency. These letters will communicate the unanimous resolution and urge immediate compliance by withdrawing the proposal for the Film City at Loliem village. The villagers seek comprehensive information on the matter.

Furthermore, the resolution empowers the Loliem-Polem Village Panchayat to take proactive measures to safeguard the plateaus of Loliem village. The Panchayat is committed to preventing the allocation of Comunidade lands for non-traditional purposes, particularly for the proposed Film City. The resolution emphasizes the Panchayat’s determination to escalate the fight against the Film City proposal and advocate for the conservation of the village’s plateaus, even if it means pursuing legal avenues up to the highest courts in the country. This united stand reflects the community’s dedication to preserving their cultural and environmental heritage.
