MAPUSA: Over the last two months, around five lottery vendors have been spotted operating at the Mapusa Municipal Market entrance thereby blocking public access.
Last year the Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) had taken a decision against allowing any vendors at the main entrance of the Mapusa Municipal Market, except during festivals that too for sale of lottery tickets only.
The MMC had decided to shift these lottery vendors to other gates by providing slots to ensure free movement of visitors.
Earlier, over 20 vendors were operating at the market entrance, which included those selling lottery tickets, readymade garments, raincoats/umbrellas, watches and other accessories.
The MMC had decided that these vendors will not be allowed to conduct business at the market entrance as they were blocking public access.
MMC chairperson Ryan Braganza informed that the MMC will look into the matter at the earliest.
“We are taking up one issue at a time and will act against all irregularities in the market,” he assured.
MMC councillor Franky Carvalho informed that originally there were more than ten vendors operating at the entrance of which seven were allotted stalls. Few vendors have resurfaced and MMC will act accordingly.
“They were asked to move because they were blocking public access and the market-goers were finding it difficult to enter and exit the market. We will soon take action against them,” Franky added.
