Macazana rejects CZMP draft, demands remake after consulting stakeholders

MARGAO: The Macazana Gram Sabha, on Sunday, outright rejected the Coastal Zone Management Plan sent to their village by the government and demanded that it be prepared again after consulting the local people and more particularly the stakeholders.

The villagers pointed out that none of the suggestions and proposals they had submitted to the authorities earlier have been incorporated in the plans sent to the panchayat now.

“In fact it is just a copy of the same plan that they had sent in the beginning of 2020 to us,” said one angry villager. The villagers were quite upset over the fact that most of the khazan land in the village was shown to be under mangrove cultivation and they argued that this is not the ground reality.

Besides, the villagers were also aghast to notice that many of their fields that they cultivate were shown to be under the Coastal Regulation Zone and wondered whether this would prohibit them from cultivating the fields in future.

Around 80 people present for the gram sabha also resolved to reconstruct the old panchayat ghar which is in a totally dilapidated condition at present and also demanded that the age old Macazana Welfare Club be repaired.

As the welfare club claimed not to have funds available for the repairs, Sarpanch Caetano Vaz agreed to see if the club could be repaired through the Goa Football Association.
