MARGAO: Activists and residents of Madel on Sunday plugged the source which was releasing raw sewage into the open nullah.
The residents have demanded that government officials especially PWD have to be taken to task for the “irresponsible” work which has caused the problem.
Benjamin Fernandes, Milagres Fernandes, Savio Dias, and others from Madel plugged the pipe which was releasing sewage from a multi-dwelling building in Madel. Milagres Fernandes said, “After giving complaints if action is not taken then this is a better way to solve the problem. Where is the PWD contractor who has taken up this sewerage work contract and created troubles for Madelkars”?
Benjamin Fernandes questioned how commercial projects are passed in an area where there is no proper sewerage system.
“Stop giving permissions to multi-dwelling projects if the sewerage system is not in place,” he demanded.
It may be recalled that eight years ago, residents of Madel were facing the same problem opposite Osia complex. After lots of complaints and follow-up, the problem was solved.
