PERNEM: Indicating various plans to develop Sindudurg, Maharashtra Public Works Minister Chhagan Bhujbal said his government has a proposal to set up a new airport at Chipi-Kudal and also will take up the reconstruction of the national highway.
Bhujbal was addressing a gathering after inaugurating the Aronda–Kiranpani Bridge on Saturday morning in the presence of Health Minister Laxmikant Parsekar, former union minister Ramakant Khalap, Sawantwadi MLA Deepak Kesarkar, ZP member Nikita Parab, Aronda Sarpanch Kaka Acharekar and Paliem Sarpanch Sandeep Nhanji.
Bhujbal expressed happiness on completion of the bridge which connects North Goa with Maharashtra.
He informed that the Maharashtra government will take up the various projects for the development of Sindhudurg district.
“There is a proposal for a new airport at Chipi at Kudal and the government will also take up the reconstruction of the national highway and a sea-wing project,” he said.
Parsekar said the Aronda–Kiranpani Bridge would boost tourism activities between Goa and Sindhudurg.
Voicing his concern over the controversial construction of a jetty at Aronda, Parsekar said the jetty would spoil the tourism activity in the region and requested the Maharashtra government not give the permission to such a project.
Ramakant Khalap and Deepak Kesarkar were among those who also spoke on the occasion.
