CURCHOREM: Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza has claimed that the State government is committed to promote development throughout the State, despite a steep decrease in revenue due to stoppage of mining activities.
He was speaking after inaugurating the Tilamol Market Complex at Tilamol on Wednesday. The complex is built by Quepem Municipal Council (QMC) through Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA).
Claiming that no development will be hampered for want of money, D’Souza also favoured resumption of legal mining as it has affected the livelihood of about 1 lakh people.
“The government is making all efforts to resume legal mining and has come out with a scheme to help the mining-affected people,” he added.
The deputy chief minister also called upon people to show interest and support projects that are taken up in their villages or towns. He asked people to even question concerned officials or contractors for reasons in the delay in executing projects so that the work is expedited and completed in the stipulated time.
D’Souza emphasized the need to undertake projects in a time-bound manner. “Projects are not delayed for want of money but due to lacklustre attitude of the contractors in most cases. Delay by a few months is accepted but not by years,” he said.
GTDC Chairman and Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral and Quepem MLA Chandrakant Babu Kavlekar also spoke on the occasion.
QMC Chairperson Dayesh Naik, Vice Chairperson Camilo Simoes, Councillor Filu D’Costa, Chief Officer Shivaji Dessai, Deputy Collector Sagun Velip and Mamlatdar Manoj were present on the occasion.
