PANJIM: The Directorate of Women and Child Department in Maharashtra has initiated an inquiry even as the Kolhapur police registered a suo-motu FIR into the incident.
“A suo-motu case is registered and we have established contacts with our counterparts in Goa. If need be, our team will travel to Goa for probe,” Kolhapur Superintendent of Police Manoj Kumar Sharma told Herald over the phone. The NGO in Kolhapur has been kept under close police watch.
WCD Deputy Commissioner of  Maharashtra Ravi Patil directed the CWC Kolhapur and its district officer to conduct the inquiry on priority. “We received instructions from the Ministry (WCD) for getting into the details of this case. I have already appointed a district officer and asked the CWC Kolhapur to investigate the matter,” he said speaking to Herald.
The department will soon write to the Goa government requesting to repatriate the rescued children – presently in Protective Home in Tivim and Apna Ghar (Merces), to their state-run home. Sources said My Father’s House is allegedly not registered with the Maharashtra government.
