PANJIM: Vasco Police achieved another major breakthrough in the Bogmalo shootout case as they managed to nab the “main accused” one Ravi Shankar Yadav, a 30-year-old native of Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh on Saturday.
According to police, Yadav, currently residing at Anjuna, had allegedly hired two contract killers namely Shailesh Gupta (29) and Shivam Singh (22), both natives of Uttar Pradesh to kill Amar Naik of New Vaddem-Vasco. The two assailants, both from Mumbai and natives of Uttar Pradesh, were arrested within 24 hours after committing the crime.
During interrogation, the contract killers broke down and led the police to Yadav.
Vasco Police on Saturday recovered two country-made pistols and cartridges used in the crime.
The police are trying to ascertain the motive behind the planned murder as they suspect a love affair behind Naik’s killing.
A top police officer said the girl’s brother was opposed to the love affair between his sister and the victim, as they belonged to different religions.
The girl’s brother, currently working in Gulf, is learnt to have executed the murder plan, police said.
It may be recalled that on Friday, Vasco Police arrested Shailesh and Shivam who had fled after shooting Amar on Thursday.
The accused had left behind the car which fell into a trench while trying to escape.
The police nabbed the two assailants from Cansaulim Railway Station track on Friday morning and obtained a seven-day police remand.
The police disclosed that one of accused works as a crane operator and the other as driver. Both had come to Goa on their friend’s invitation.
The vehicle used in the crime was attached and referred to special examination.
Meanwhile, the Revolutionary Goans (RG) has condemned the murder of a youth from Vasco, who was shot by some unknown persons in broad daylight at Bogmalo on Thursday.
