Vasco: The number of positive cases in New Vaddem and Shantinagar areas reached 14 on Tuesday as the immediate family members of the earlier two COVID- 19 persons tested positive.
Mormugao Municipal Councillor Yatin Kamurlkar said that he had updated the Transport Minister and Dabolim MLA Mauvin Godinho about the situation.
He added that Godinho immediately directed the Mormugao Deputy Collector and Vasco Police Inspector to inspect the affected area. Following which, he stated that the authorities decided to barricade the main road near the Sulabh toilet with police personnel stationed there to restrict the movement of outsiders. “I have also prepared a list of people who have come in contact with the positive persons and requested the Deputy Collector to arrange for the Health Department to get the families stamped with home quarantined markers and subsequently test them for COVID-19,” said Yatin, while thanking Godinho for his quick intervention.
Later on Tuesday evening, Goa Mahila Congress leader Pratima Coutinho met the Deputy Collector Sachin Dessai and submitted to him a memorandum demanding that Mormugao be placed under lockdown for 14 days.
