Main witness in Cipriano case faces murder charge

PANJIM, FEB 10 A day after Panjim policemen were charged for murdering Cipriano in police custody, Ryan Fernandes, the driver who ferried the deceased in a Bolero jeep from Porvorim on that fateful day, also found himself booked for murder and destroying evidence.

A day after Panjim policemen were charged for murdering Cipriano in police custody, Ryan Fernandes, the driver who ferried the deceased in a Bolero jeep from Porvorim on that fateful day, also found himself booked for murder and destroying evidence.
On Thursday, Crime Branch also charged Ryan under section 302 (murder), 201 (destroying evidence) read with 34 (destroying evidence) of the Indian Penal Code. The accused drove the Bolero jeep in which Cipriano was brought to Panjim police station from Porvorim.
Cipriano was arrested on January 7 for allegedly threatening his lady friend and later died in the Goa Medical College and Hospital while in police custody. He worked as second cook on a European cruise liner and was on a two-month vacation.
Ryan was called by one of the Panjim police officials to pick up Cipriano from Porvorim after the seafarer’s lady friend filed a formal complaint against him. 
All the officers who were on duty right from the time Cipriano was brought in Panjim police custody till he was admitted to the hospital on the intervening of January 7 and 8 are being investigated.
