PONDA: In dairy sector, Goa is the only State in country that provides so many schemes, incentives and support price of Rs 10 per litre for the farmers. The Goa Dairy and veterinary officials should make up their mind to increase the dairy farmers to make Goa State self-reliant in milk production,” stated Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant, on Friday.
After inaugurating the Golden Jubilee Year Celebration of Goa State Co-operative Milk Producers Union, popularly known as Goa Dairy, the Chief Minister stated that the State is almost dependent for all the essential food items on the other States.

“There is lot of scope for milk production using the government schemes. Now Central government is providing Rs 1.60 lakh loan to the dairy farmers after making Kisan Credit Card with free of interest and without providing security. Farmers should take advantage of it,” he said.
“The Goa Dairy existing production is 65,000 litres per day while the current demand is 2.5 lakh litres and during the tourism season it is around 4 lakh litres per day, which is imported and hence lot of scope for dairy activities. So the Goan farmers and dairy officials should set target of atleast 1.5 lakh per litres per day at the end of next year and further to be self-reliant in dairy sector,” he added.
Sawant inaugurated the Golden Jubilee Year celebration at a function at Sahakar Bhavan Hall, Curti Ponda in the presence of Cooperation Minister Govind Gaude, Ponda MLA Ravi Naik, Goa Dairy Chairman Durgesh Shirodkar, Managing Director Anil Fadte, Nitin Colvekar, Dr Mahendra Bale, Ponda Municipal Council Chairperson Vishwanath Dalvi, Curti Panchayat members, government officials and dairy farmers.
Earlier, Milkoscan machine installed at Goa Dairy plant, costing around Rs 85 lakh, was inaugurated by the Chief Minister.
The Chief Minister appreciated Goa Dairy for installing Rs 85 lakh Milkoscan machine, which is quality checking machine.
“The Goans have always preferred Goa Dairy milk as they feel it is good for health and so Goa Dairy should maintain its quality and reputation.”
The Chief Minister asked the officials to build better relations with the public for development of Goa Dairy.
He assured to solve the grievances of some protesting farmers providing better rates and added that Goa Dairy is moving on the path of profit making, which will benefit the farmers and employees and in next six months goods results are expected.
