PANJIM: The State government has initiated process to draft an action plan for reducing emissions from deforestation and degradation (REDD) in the State’s wild.
REDD is a mechanism for encouraging developing nations to preserve their forests by giving an economic value to the carbon saved by stopping deforestation.

The State government has constituted eight-member committee under Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (PCCF) for implementation of National REDD+ Strategy and to draft State action plan.
Along with preparation of State REDD action plan, the committee has to also deal with drafting sub-national or State level reference emission level/reference level and Forest Monitoring System and Safeguard Information System (SIS).
The REFF will be implemented through Community Forestry, Van Panchayats and Village Forest Protection Committees.
The committee will meet once in a month to discuss and work out strategy and way forward.
