Man poses a cop, dupes woman of gold worth Rs 1.8 lakh

VASCO: A man impersonated as a police officer and duped a woman of her gold ornaments worth approximately Rs 1.8 lakh at Vaddem, Vasco.

According to information given by the Vasco Police, the incident occurred on October 30, and the woman Suchita Tirodkar, residing at Vaddem, reported the incident on Tuesday. In her complaint, Tirodkar stated that a man, aged between 45 and 50 years, with a wheatish complexion approached her under the guise of police officer.

The suspect dishonestly induced her while warning her about potential dangers and insisted on securing her valuables for safety. He further removed her gold bangles and mangalsutra, which were kept in her handbag. The impersonator took the ornaments and fled from the scene before she realised that she was cheated.

The Vasco Police have registered a case against an unknown person under Sections 319 (2) and 303 (2) of the BNS 2023. PSI Priyanka Patil is conducting investigation under the guidance of Vasco PI Kapil Nayak and overall guidance of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.

Police have appealed to the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious individuals.
