Man shoots wife to death at Agonda

MARGAO:  In a bizarre incident which sent shock waves across the State, a Malkarnem resident allegedly shot his wife to death with a gun at Agonda.

Canacona Police said they arrested 42-year-old Alfred Pereira for allegedly killing his 35-year-old wife Sonia Monteiro at his in-laws residence. 

South Goa SP Pankaj Kumar Singh said, “On Saturday evening, we received information from the Canacona Health Centre that a woman was 

declared brought dead at around 8.45 pm on account of a gunshot injury following a dispute.”

Canacona PI Tulshidas Naik and his staff visited the crime scene following a complaint by their daughter.

The police said Alfred shot Sonia, who sustained grievous injuries and was taken to Canacona health centre. However, she succumbed to her injuries.

The incident took place around at 8.30 pm when Sonia returned home from work. There were arguments between Sonia and Alfred wherein the latter, in a fit of anger, removed a gun and shot Sonia at point black range, the police said.

The police said after the incident the accused surrendered before the Canacona Police.

“We will register an offence under relevant Sections of the IPC,” said a senior police officer stating that the police team is at crime spot carrying out legal formalities.

South SP Pankaj Kumar Singh along with other officers visited the site.
