MARGAO: Congress manifesto for the upcoming Assembly elections will be fully based on what the people want, Vision Document 2035, and will have nothing other than demands of the people, stated Elvis Gomes, Co-Chairman of the Manifesto Committee of Congress.

The first meeting of the said committee under the chairmanship of senior Congress leader Ramakant Khalap was held, recently.

Speaking to the media persons, here, Gomes also said that the preparation of the manifesto of Congress is at a preliminary stage.

“The Party’s manifesto will be fully based on the demands and wishes of the people of Goa,” he said.

Elvis said that if they see the dream of former Prime Minister and Congress leader Rajiv Gandhi of empowerment at grassroots level (panchayat and municipality) under the 73rd and 74th Amendment will be included in the manifesto.

“Congress Party’s aim will be to empower the people at grass-root level, so that every decision is taken at the grassroots level rather than upper level, and this is also my personal view,” he added.

The Congress leader further said that it is too early to talk about the manifesto but he appealed to the public to give suggestions pertaining to preparing the manifesto for the upcoming Assembly elections in the State.

He said that agitations are held only because the government is not considering or listening to the voices and decisions of the people. Congress will see to it that people take the decisions at grassroots level and that they are implemented later by the government.“Congress will surely consider the decisions taken at the grassroots level once they come to power. Suggestions from every sector of the society will be taken into consideration while preparing the manifesto which includes women and youth empowerment,” Elvis added.
