PORVORIM: The Mapusa carnival parade will be flagged off on February 9 at Tar Bridge. It will proceed towards the market area, taxi stand, Gandhi Chowk and culminate at the new Mapusa bus stand.
Mapusa Municipal Council Chairperson Sandeep Falari stated that the carnival screening committee has decided not to allow non-registered vehicles to be used for the floats. This year, it has been decided to stop at the parade route at the new bus stand area to avoid traffic congestion on the Mapusa-Panjim road.
The carnival committee will also organize a four-day food and cultural festival and a shopping exhibition. The highlight of the carnival celebration will be a performance by Russian dancers and a dance performance by GIPA. There will also be live performances by a Konkani band and fire dance performance by Kanan group.
Falari added that Rs 18 to 20 lakh will be spent on the carnival this year.
“On the road dug for sewage work, where the carnival floats are planned to move, the contractor has been advised to undertake the asphalting work of the main road urgently so that the road is ready by February 9,” said Falari.
