MAPUSA: The administrative employees of Mapusa Municipal Council have threatened to go on a strike from August 22, if a gag order issued by the chief officer was not withdrawn before that date.
In a recent order, the chief officer had prohibited the municipal staff from revealing information concerning the affairs and functioning of the Council to the media or RTI activists. And the threat is issued in respect of that order.
The notice of strike was served on Chief Officer Clen Medeira on Wednesday by the Goa Municipal Employees Association, wherein the Association contented that the memo has been issued with an intension to harass the permanent employees of the Council who have been “working diligently and with utmost care.”
The Association states in the notice that it has also received oral complaints from almost all the staff that the staff of the legal department have been harassing the permanent employees.
If this continues, the Association warned, it would be forced to agitate.
