Goa Foundation files contempt petition in Marriot case

PANJIM: NGO Goa Foundation filed a contempt petition in the High Court of Bombay at Goa against the State Chief Secretary, Environment Secretary and Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority Secretary for refusing to carry out directions of the court given in its judgement on the Marriott Resort CRZ violation delivered in June 2015 and its most recent order dated July 3, 2017.

PANJIM: NGO Goa Foundation filed a contempt petition in the High Court of Bombay at Goa against the State Chief Secretary, Environment Secretary and Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority Secretary for refusing to carry out directions of the court given in its judgement on the Marriott Resort CRZ violation delivered in June 2015 and its most recent order dated July 3, 2017. The Court has posted hearing of the contempt petition next week. 
Despite the first direction being given two years ago, the State government and its officials have refused to ensure the  orders are implemented, the petition before the court states. 
On July 3, 2017 the HC granted final extension to GCZMA to comply with the direction issued in judgement on June 2015 while disposing the writ petition. 
In the same order, the Court directed the Chief Secretary and the Environment Secretary to ensure that the directions issued in the order are complied with by July 12, 2017. 
Goa Foundation submitted that the authorities are deliberately not complying with the Court’s only to protect the illegal construction of the Marriot Hotels. The hotel’s owners are highly favoured by the government, says the petition.
