MAPUSA: Mapusa cobblers complained that they have been harassed by the Mapusa Municipal staff and are not allowing them to display their items for sale where they sit to carry out their business. They threatened to agitate if the issue is not resolved.
Sudesh Hasotikar a cobbler said, “A committee should be formed to enquire on how many new vendors are operating in municipal market. I have been there in the market for years but the Mapusa Municipality workers are harassing us.”
Another cobbler said “After taking loan, we got some belts, socks, and laces and had put them for display for sale but now we are told to remove them. The municipality staffs imposing fines of rupees 500 to 1000. Vendors operating all over the market have displayed those items but municipality can only see us,” he said.
Municipality could have shifted us to the corner of the market but instead of shifting us there, they occupied the area for dumping of garbage, which is used by drunkard to sleep,” said cobblers.
