MAPUSA: Mapusa Police on Thursday arrested two persons and recovered stolen melted gold weighing 240 gms worth Rs 9.12 lakh.
Mapusa PI, Tushar Lotlikar led a team comprising of PSI Vijay Chodankar, head constable Irshad Watangi, Sushant Chopdekar, Rajesh Kandolkar and Sarvesh Mandrekar and arrested the duo – 38-year-old Imran Shaikh, a resident of Thane and 38-year-old Smitesh Gawas, a resident of Mulund (W) and attached a four-wheeler which was used in the crime.
It may be recalled that a gold smith had lodged a complaint on November 9 complaining that around 9.15 pm after closing his shop, when he returning home on his scooter, a car was following him. Police informed that there were around four-five people in the car who stopped him and informed that they are from Sawantwadi Crime Branch and demanded documents from the goldsmith. The accused asked the complainant to open his scooter under seat storage where they found melted gold. Police said the accused stole the gold. In this connection, the Mapusa police had registered an offence under Sections 340,170, 379 read with 34 IPC against four-five unknown persons. They had arrested Satish Potdar from Thane and Rajesh Gurav from Ratnagiri.
