TIVIM: Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) Chairperson Sandip Falari has said the present council offices will be shifted to the old St Mary complex by March.
Falari told reporters that all the municipal offices will later start functioning from the new complex.
Falari, who is taking keen interest in speedy completion of this ‘signature project’ of the golden jubilee fund costing about Rs 1.7 crore, is personally monitoring the work every week by being present at the site and discussing the issues arising with all engineers and consultants.
It may be recalled that the work on renovating the old St Mary complex, which is a heritage building, began in August last year. However after the school was shifted, the building was left to fend for itself and wore a deserted and isolated look.
“I hope to complete all the work on the building by March-end, as it is the end of the financial year and shifting will be a smooth and easy process at that time,” said Falari.
He said that presently all the work on the building is going on at the desired speed.
He said that the present MMC building will not be closed down after shifting. Falari said closing down a building means inviting it to come down.
“We will shift our offices to the new premises by March, but the existing municipal building will continue toin operation. We will convert it to some sort of a museum, of course its library will also continue but in the other sections we may go in for storing artefacts as that will really suit the structure,” he said.
