MAPUSA: A delegation of Mapusa Merchants Association on Friday met the Chairperson of Mapusa Municipal Council Priya Mishal and
submitted a memorandum highlighting various issues faced by them.
The terrible condition of the roads within the market area was one of the main issue mentioned in the memorandum.
The memorandum demanded that the MMC needs to pay attention towards the activities of vendors in the market and said that the civic body had no control them as they keep encroaching and displaying their goods all over the place hampering the movement of shopkeepers.
“ The vendors have occupied and encroached even in open spaces leaving very little place for customers and Emergency vehicles to move,” said the Association and demanded that the former be banned from keeping their goods on the road at nights.
The merchants demanded that all encroachments in the market be cleared and vendors prohibited from displaying goods and umbrellas according to their whims and fancies and wanted the civic body to issue ID cards to the latter besides calling for the formation of a Town Vending Committee.
“The non functional toilets were a disgrace in the city and needed to be repaired. They need to be either renovated or reconstructed,” demanded the Merchants.
“The roads in the Market are bad, gutter slabs broken, CCTVs not working, street lights on functional and anti-social elements were having a field day,” added the Merchants and demanded things be put in place at the earliest.
