MAPUSA: The Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) held a special meeting to discuss and decide on measures to be taken during the Bodgeshwar zatra vis-à-vis NOC, sopo and distribution of paper bags on Wednesday.
This year the zatra will be held for five days beginning from January 20.
It was resolved that the permission and NOC for stalls at the zatra would be given in accordance with the Bodgeshwar devasthan committee layout plan.
The council took the decision of making available around 70,000 paper bags worth Rs 2,66,000 for the zatra out of which the municipality will contribute Rs 1,00,000 towards the purchase of these bags. The balance amount is sponsored and these bags will be sold at the venue as a substitute to plastic bags that were earlier used.
The councillors suggested to Chairperson Ryan Braganza that the council would have to recognize the right layout plan by the temple committee to ensure the smooth conduct of the zatra.
Councillor Madhumita Nagvekar questioned as to why this matter of organising the zatra had come up for the meeting when it was earlier organised very smoothly.
Another Councillor Sandeep Falari said that the consent of the councillors will be given only after going through the layout put forward by the Devasthan committee.
Councilor Tushar Tople suggested for a joint meeting of the municipality and the temple committee. He added that consent will be given subject to the layout plan of the committee.
The chairperson stated that the MMC will grant permissions and NOCs for the stalls at the Bodgeshwar zatra in accordance with the temple committee layout plan.
