MAPUSA: Mapusa Police on Monday seized 8,100 litres of whisky worth Rs 71 lakh along with the truck from Maharashtra on Monday evening.
The alcohol bottles have been handed over to the Excise Department for further formalities.
Mapusa PI, Kapil Nayak said that around 900 cartons of whisky bottles were seized from a truck plying from Mapusa to Thivim. “Some documents were checked by us and we have handed over the alcohol to the Excise Department for further action into the matter.
The alcohol was checked in the presence of officials from the Excise Department. Further investigation is underway,” said Nayak.
However, inquiry was in progress to check if the alcohol was supposed to be used for the purpose of distribution in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
