A schoolgirl in Mapusa was injured after was chased by a
group of dogs, while attempting to escape from the dogs, she tripped and
fractured her leg. This incident marks the third reported case of a dog attack
in Mapusa. Concerned about the potential for rabies transmission, residents
have urged the government to take action by implementing the Animal Birth
Control (ABC) program and providing financial support to NGOs throughout the
state for sterilization and animal welfare efforts.

“There is a fund allocated by the central govt. for the
NGO’s  to care for animals, we request
the govt. for ABC programmes across the state to care for stray dogs which will
help in sterilization. Then such incidents of dog stacks won’t take place,”
said activist Salman Khan from Mapusa.

Additionally, they have called for the relocation of stray
dogs away from the vicinity of the school to ensure the safety of the students.

Activist Abdul Sheikh said, “We are concerned for the safety
of children and request the govt. to relocate these dogs away from the
schools.”
