The issue of South Goa District Hospital has once again come
to light. On the one hand, the residents of Salcete have expressed their anger
over the non-functional ICU and lack of facilities at SGDH, while opposition
parties have criticized the government for failing to provide basic health
facilities.
Fatorda MLA Vijay Sardesai, along with Goa Forward party
delegation gave a surprise visit to the non-functional ICU at South Goa
District Hospital on Tuesday. Sardessai took a dig at BJP Government
especially, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane for proposing privatisation of the
hospital in spite of providing necessary health facilities.
Meanwhile, residents of Margao expressed their anger for
regularly being referred to Goa Medical College or Private Hospital, due to
absence of basic medical facilities at SGDH.
The Goa Forward delegation has served an ultimatum to
Government to start full fledge ICU within 15 days, failing which the
delegation has warned of agitation against the BJP Government in South Goa.
The glaring lack of medical facilities at the South Goa
District Hospital has always been an effortless subject for the opposition to
corner BJP Government. Unfortunately despite several assurances by the Health
Minister South Goa District Hospital continues to remain unmet expectation.
