MAPUSA: With no pre-monsoon preparation undertaken, heavy rains and the sewerage project have taken their toll on Mapusa roads again, with the recently hot-mixed roads developing cracks and potholes at different locations in the city.
Motorists were put through hardships and minor accidents were also reported at places when they suddenly tried to veer around the scattered potholes during traffic hours.
Indecently, it is not only the internal roads that are in dire need of repair, but main roads in Mapusa market as well, which have deteriorated due to sewerage project work, as it was subsequently only covered with a thin layer of hot-mix.
Similar condition can be noticed on the road from Lohiya Garden to old municipal building, which even after application of concrete barely a month ago lies in shoddy state, with the mud making the road slippery and difficult to motor.
Another internal road that has developed potholes is the lane behind Maruti temple and the road coming towards Mapusa city from Dattawadi.
The contractor does try to make temporary efforts periodically to cover it but the outcome remains the same, as the condition gets worse after the potholes are filled with water.
Mapusa Municipal Chairman Rohan Kavlekar however clarified that the hot-mixing or repair of road was not taken up by the MMC, but the sewerage contractor.
