MAPUSA: Under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, the Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) on Friday approved the proposal to install 20 bio toilets to make the town open defecation free.
The decision was taken an its ordinary council meeting wherein the Rs 20 lakh
proposal of New Sai Fibre, an ISO company was approved.
The meeting also discussed different issues and paid tributes to former Chief Minister Shashikala Kakodkar.
Tushar Tople and Sanjay Mishal requested the chairperson Sandip Falari to take action against tender coconut sellers in Mapusa, who occupy various spaces at different locations in and around the municipal and vegetable markets, thereby create parking problems and also block the access to the market.
The councillors also called for acting against the spice vendors, who sit near the Shakuntala statue inside market.
The council also granted six-month extension to market inspector Tayo Gadekar, who is due to retire this month till the new market inspector is appointed. They also decided to appoint a new Grade III engineer at a salary of Rs 30,000 on a temporary basis.
