PONDA: Marcaim Nagrik Kruti Samiti on Thursday slammed the Marcaim panchayat for accepting gifts from a steel company which the samiti alleged is involved in illegalities for the past several years.
“Panchayat had accepted cupboard and shelf from a steel company against which the samiti had staged agitation for illegally dumping slag waste into open area. The company has also constructed around 90 illegal rooms for accommodating labourers”, samiti president Premanand Gaude claimed.
“These structures need to be demolished immediately. The samiti will raise this issue during the Marcaim gram sabha”, he said.
He alleged that the company has failed to clear the slag which they had assured by May.
Gaude disclosed that the Marcaim sarpanch had even written on behalf of the Panchayat to the company appreciated it for providing cupboard and steel shelf.
The letter reads, “I would also like to appreciate your response to our request to provide with office material that was required by the office and shall be of great cause to improve our office infrastructure and the office is highly obliged towards generosity of company.”
Gaude said the secretary also confirmed receiving cupboard and shelf from steel company.
When Herald contacted Panchayat secretary on the issue he refused to comment. Despite repeated calls the sarpanch was not available for comments.
