MARGAO: Residents of Margao submitted a list of demands to the Margao Municipal Council MMC), airing their concerns about the upcoming Margao Fair. The citizens pointed out that every year before the fair, they request MMC to avoid creating hardships to the residents of Maddel and other road-users, with regards to footpath encroachments, road blockades, traffic congestion, sanitation, parking and garbage issues.

“However, every time priority is given for more stalls and revenue, without any emphasis on   public grievances. Distributing stalls is the priority of your office but after that, none of your staff is deployed to adhere to the public grievances we have highlighted,” read the letter by the concerned citizens. “During the June 2022 fair, the approach roads leading to Maddel were blocked by parked vehicles and we had to regulate the traffic and clear the roads,” said Savio Dias, calling for provision of parking space on the fair’s grounds. “These fairs used to be held for three days but now the Council has made it seven days. Limit it to the minimum duration period,” said Dias, who also demanded that the use of plastic bags below 20 microns be banned, and that garbage collection and sanitation issues be addressed as well. “Noise polluting stalls should be ordered to stop by 9.30 pm, and all footpaths should be free of encroachments,” the citizens added.
