The Chowgule Circle has traffic coming in from Curtorim, Raia, Chandor, Fatorda, Arlem, Nuvem, Borda, Gogol, Housing Board and Aquem and at peak hours, in the morning and evening, there are lines of cars waiting to navigate this junction. Sometimes, people heading back home from work, kids returning from tuitions and others going about doing their daily chores are stuck for hours here. Residents from the area, Chowgule College, a yoga school, a classical music school and many others have raised this issue with the local MLA, the traffic cell, Margao town police and even Arthur D’Silva, Margao Municipality chairperson but nobody has done anything about it. The Home Guard who promised to be stationed there never turns up while the cops come later at night to set up a Naka-Bandhi but none of them actually man the traffic as the problem worsens day by day. “We only hope an accident doesn’t wake up the Traffic Cell,” said a senior citizen who lives along the highway.
Margao, Fatorda, Aquem roads meet at chaotic junction
The NH17A or the Eastern Bypass at the Chowgule College Circle is a bone of contention with respect to road safety for Xaxtikars. Statues of three men at the circle are constantly knocked down by trucks and other vehicles. This coming together of multiple roads is a cauldron of chaos in the city.
