Margao to host March For Life on Jan 5

MARGAO: The Diocesan Family Service Centre of the Archdiocese of Goa and Daman will organise a March For Life on January 5 in Margao.

Fr Clifford Castelino told newsmen that the march will begin at the Holy Spirit Church grounds, Margao at 9 am and will proceed to Our Lady of Rosary Church Hall, Fatorda.

He said around 700 students of various higher secondaries from Verna, Margao and Chinchinim deaneries will participate in the march.

“As we are aware, respect for life is on the decline. The culture of death is promoted without considering its consequences. Killing of the unborn and disregard for life is on the rise. Hence, awakening the community is the need of the hour”, Fr Castellino said.

Fr Kennet Teles said the Diocesan Family Service Centre has been working to build happy, healthy and holy families in Goa since 1976. “This is the first time a March For Life is being organized. The theme for this year is “Life is God’s Gift: Protect it”.

Saying there is lack of reverence for human life in the world today; Fr Teles said there are more abortions than the number of deaths worldwide. “Official figures states that there were 978 abortions in Goa, one every nine hours”, he added, while stressing on the need to create awareness in the society on the respect for life.
