Margao traffic cell allotted 4 new bikes

The Margao traffic cell has received four brand new motorcycles to tackle the increasing number of traffic violators and keep a check on reckless driving.
Margao traffic cell incharge, PI Prabodh Shirwaikar informed that the police department has placed the motorcycles at the disposal of the traffic cell to cover the entire Margao city and parts of Salcete.
He said traffic cops often go out of the city on the highway to check two-wheeler riders without helmets and drivers driving sans fastening seat belts. “The new two-wheelers would certainly come in handy for the traffic cops as part of their routine duties”, he said.
Replying to a question, he said the Margao traffic cell have been given additional home guards to maintain the increasing traffic in the city, adding that the services of home guards will be utilized only for the purpose of traffic regulation.
If Shirwaikar is to be believed, the Margao traffic police books around 1200 cases, mostly relating to violation on the helmet rule, seat belts, no entry, double parking etc.
The police book around 10-12 cases of drunken driving a week.
