PANJIM: Marinetech Ship Managers & Surveyors has filed two complaints against unidentified persons for duping jobseekers of huge amounts of money under its name.
The firm, with its office in Vasco, has accused unscrupulous persons of using its name to lure young persons and seafarers into false job promises and collecting money from them.
The Cyber Crime cell has begun an inquiry in the case. In its first complaint to the Cyber Crime Cell on August 17, the firm informed that one Devkant Raghunathan approached them for a medical test on the fraudsters’ request.
On inquiry, the company found that a website www.mtsmspl.com exists and contains all its details including the address and recruitment and placement seafarers’ license details issued by the Director General of Shipping. The contact number was, however, not that of the Vasco office.
“We are not even remotely associated with the website/company/individual. Our company’s good credentials are being exploited for personal gains by some crooked minded person and we request you to take stern action against all the persons involved in the racket,” reads the complaint filed by official Sarvesh Dhond.
A second complaint followed on August 18, when a seafarer from Kanyakumari, Karthik Balakrishnan reported to the company to join a vessel. It was then realized that he too was duped by unknown persons and Marinetech lodged another complaint.
A report on Herald’s Thursday edition had inadvertently reported that a case has been registered against the fake company. It is Marinetech that has exposed the racket through the two incidents. The error is regretted.
