Markets in Cuncolim shutdown for not keeping distance

CUNCOLIM: The Cuncolim Municipal Council closed down the fish, vegetable and fruit markets since Thursday.

Municipal sources informed Herald that the municipality was forced to close down the markets due to indiscipline by both vendors and customers.

An officer said that the Council and police had received several complaints from locals that social distancing was not followed in market. “Many videos went viral on social media showing that people crowding in the market without maintaining distance. The warning of the council and police was not heeded to by the vendors. Since there was no other alternative, we were forced to close down market,” the officer said.

The Council even advised the vendors to home deliver their items. It may recall that Cuncolim municipality had allowed fish, vegetable and fruit vendors to sit in open place and at parking complex outside the CMC market. They were allowed to the business for three hours from 7 am to 10 am. But the vendors did not maintain social distancing.
