CUNCOLIM: Some of the residents of Veroda in Cuncolim were lucky to see a full-grown bison grazing close to Talwada Shree Shantadurga Verdekarin Temple.
Cuncolkars had never spotted a full-grown bison from a very close range. Veroda is an outskirt of Cuncolim town. The ward is surrounded by the Chandreshwar Mountain and has a thick forest cover. Many wild animals and birds visit the Chandreshwar Mountain in search of food and water.

Many a time leopards were also spotted in this area. Some senior citizens informed the media that it’s the first time in their life they had spotted a Gaur in this village.
Restricted movement of the people due to the lockdown, the locals say, could be a reason for the bison to venture out close to the human habitation.
It’s all silent and quite around the world; no sound and air pollution, due to which many wild animals and birds are seen close to the residential areas. Lots of peacocks are seen at Demani, Jhujegal, Cacnamoddi and Naingillo area of Cuncolim.
Meanwhile, for the first time in 33 years, the Cuncolkars can breathe fresh air, as, due to the lockdown, majority of the polluting units in Cuncolim Industrial Estate are shut down bringing the pollution index in the town to zero. For the Cuncolkars, the lockdown is a blessing in disguise.
