The crime branch’s report to North Goa Collector Nila Mohanan was taking cognizance of a raid that exposed a prostitution racket being carried out in the garb of beauty centre-cum-spa. PI Siddhant Shirodkar confirmed that the spa centre was sealed on Friday in the wake of the order to take steps with immediate effect. The Panjim police had last week rescued five girls and arrested five customers besides a lady pimp for running the illicit trade. The victims, hailing from Nepal, West Bengal and Arunachal Pradesh were thereafter sent to Protective Home at Merces. The CB inquiry had found that the spa had violated the Goa Public Health Act as it not only failed to maintain record of its visitors, but the masseur therapists also had no medical fitness certificate required under the rules.
Mohanan, speaking to Herald said that the report from the agency concerned about sealing the premises will be sent to the Health Department, for revoking the licence.
