PANJIM: Taking serious cognisance of the nuisance created by beggars in Panjim, Mayor Surendra Furtado has written to the police to take immediate action.
The letter from the CCP comes following a Herald report ‘The begging mafia seems to have taken permanent residence in Panjim’ that appeared in its weekly page on Panjim in the edition dated Feb 21.
“The news appeared in Herald on February 21 regarding occupying of the footpaths of the municipal building and roads in the city and also on the parade ground by beggars and creating nuisance to the public and tourists,” the Mayor said in a letter to Panjim police.
“You are requested to take immediate action to stop the public nuisance and take action against the beggars under the Anti-Begging Act urgently,” Furtado stated.
