Mayor requests PWD to inspect Gera building

He also requested the PWD building division to inspect the foundation and plans of the under construction Gera building to find out whether the firm has taken required measures and steps to protect the surrounding structures

PANJIM: A day after issuing a stop work order to Gera Developments, the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) on Friday wrote to the Public Works Department (PWD) demanding an immediate site inspection of the foundation and plans of the building constructed by the firm.
Mayor Surendra Furtado, in his letter to the PWD, states, “It has been reported that Gera Developers is constructing a huge commercial project at Patto, Panjim near the Sanskruti Bhavan of the Government of Goa and on account of the deep foundation being dug for the said project, cracks have been developed to the building of Sanskruti Bhavan resulting in endangering the building.”
Speaking to Herald, Furtado said, “I have written to PWD as it is the right forum to give us a technical report. I don’t want this episode to be like Ruby Constructions. I don’t understand why CCP Commissioner went with the ex-Panjim MLA and ex-vice-chairman of GSIDC to inspect the site, it looks like GSIDC has given the contract to Gera Constructions.”
He also requested the PWD building division to inspect the foundation and plans of the under construction Gera building to find out whether the firm has taken required measures and steps to protect the surrounding structures.
“I have asked for a report in this regard urgently as the stability of the government and other buildings in this area is in danger and so remedial measures can be taken immediately,” Furtado added.
