PANJIM: Panjim Mayor Surendra Furtado on Wednesday wrote to the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) Commissioner asking for details of the amount paid by the pay parking contractor to the CCP.
Speaking to Herald, Furtado said, “Today I have written to the CCP Commissioner to furnish the details of the annual parking fees paid by the contractor to the CCP as per the contract along with the monthly installment, the amount paid so far and also the outstanding amount from the contractor towards parking fees.”
He added, “I have also asked the commissioner of to provide details of the action taken to recover the outstanding dues from the contractor. The pay parking contract was awarded by the CCP in May 2016 to Straight Deal Services. However, it is learnt that the contractor is not paying the parking fees as per the agreement of the contract, although the contractor is seen collecting the parking fees from the public in the notified areas.”
According to Furtado, the staff collecting the fees are not wearing a uniform as per the terms of the contract and the company now owes CCP nearly Rs 30 lakh.
According to the contract with CCP, Straight Deal Services had to pay monthly charges of Rs 5.25 lakh for the tenure of the contract from May 2016 till April 2017 but as per CCP records, the contractor paid only a sum of Rs 2 lakh from May to October but after that has failed to pay any amount.
