MAPUSA: In a shocking incident reported at Guirim, a mentally challenged person allegedly assaulted five policemen attached to the Mapusa Police Station with a knife.
According to police, the incident took place on Wednesday at around 7 pm when Sarvewada-Guirim resident Janava Miranda, who is alleged to be mentally challenged, attacked five police officers attached to the Mapusa Police Station with a knife causing them injuries.
The injured policemen were PSI Dipesh Shetkar, PSI Elidio Fernandes LIB police staff Irshad Varangi and Rajesh Kanolkar and constable Dinesh Goltekar.
Mapusa police further disclosed that the accused had in the past attacked many locals from Sarvewada. On Wednesday evening, the accused created a tense situation in Sarvewada, wherein he threatened to kill the residents with a knife. The locals immediately informed the Mapusa police officials, who rushed to the site. Janava attacked the policemen with a knife when they tried to nab him. The policemen sustained injuries in the incident but however called for additional police force to nab the accused.
The accused later attacked a cow which was tied to a pole and entered the residence of one Shruti Desai. He later locked himself in a toilet.
The locals and police then nabbed the accused and thrashed him.
The police and the accused were hospitalized.The locals later rushed to the Mapusa Police Station and requested the police officials not to release the accused. They further vowed not to allow him enter the village and that he should be sent to his native place Dodamarg. The accused currently resides at his in-laws’ house Sarvewada-Guirim.
