MBBS, BDS admissions begin

PANJIM: The first round of admissions to the MBBS and BDS courses began on Monday with hundreds of students queuing up at Directorate of Technical Education, Porvorim for the 150 and 47 seats available in the respective courses.

The admissions started despite a group of students filing a writ petition in the Supreme Court last week praying that admissions should not be held based on the Goa Common Entrance Test (GCET).
The first round of admissions to professional courses began on June 16 but following a request from Goa Medical College, the State deferred the process for admissions to the two courses. 
The second round of admissions to MBBS and BDS is scheduled to on July 18. Goa government had earlier turned down a students’ proposal to conduct Goa Common Entrance Test  afresh,  stating that it had filed an intervention in the SC seeking relaxation for the current academic year. 
The President on May 25 passed the ordinance wherein state boards can skip NEET for this academic year.
Meanwhile, Directorate of Technical Education announced a revised schedule of admissions to first year and second year professional diploma courses from Tuesday onwards.
