PONDA: Eight-five employees of the Goa Meat Complex, Usagoa, have not received their salaries since October 2017 and this is not the first time their salaries have been delayed. In fact, receiving salaries at the Meat Complex on time is a miracle.
Though the employees are confident that their salaries would be paid in the near future, currently they are struggling to meet the daily expenditures of their families.
Stating that they have no other source of income, these employees have sought the intervention of Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar in releasing their salaries at the earliest.
Of the 85 employees, 45 regular one while 40 are employed on contract. The contract employees receive salary of Rs 10,000 per month.
Currently, all these workers have no work as slaughter of cattle is stopped due to no supply of cattle by traders. However, the employees attend to their regular duties.
The Goa Government Employees Association has also sought the government intervention for early payment of the salaries of these 85 employees.
An employee said that their salary bill has been submitted to Directorate of Accounts by the Goa Meat Complex in December last, but the same is pending at the cash section, because of some clarification has been sought by the Finance Department from the Goa Meat Complex.
