PANJIM: Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Friday announced that the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) in Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC) would be commissioned soon.
Addressing media persons, Rane said that the 12-bed MICU will be commissioned in GMC and the file in this regard has been cleared by him. “There was a need for MICU in GMC. We have now decided to go for it. Upgradation of Intensive care unit (ICU) is also in pipeline,” the Minister said.
Rane further said he is contemplating outsourcing the operation of ICUs at Valpoi primary health centre, district and sub district hospital at Ponda and Mapusa, Bicholim health centre and Hospicio to ensure better monitoring.
“I have asked the Health Department to get in touch with doctors or consultants from Goa, who are willing to provide the service and let us tie up with them to outsource the ICUs. We are taking this step because we don’t have the resource persons to handle the facility,” he stated.
He also said that new medical equipment worth Rs 26 crore will be commissioned at GMC soon and that PTnr test (blood test) will be also made available at GMC in the next four days.
Rane said the government is also working towards upgrading the health facilities, especially in the rural areas ensuring that the medical service reaches to the door steps of the people.
The government has proposed upgrading the Sankhalim primary health centre into a community health centre and new health centres have been proposed at Surla, Keri, Thane and Poriem. Primary health centres are also proposed in Benaulim and Candolim.
“Special focus is on mining belts like Pissurlem, Usgao, Sanguem, Dharbandora and Sattari. We will ensure that all the mining areas have rural medical dispensaries and the existing facilities are upgraded with the required equipments, infrastructure, staff and doctors,” Rane said.
He said that in the last three months the government has recruited 36 doctors, who are and who will be deployed at the rural, primary and community health centres as per requirement.
Also another six 108 ambulances will be added to existing fleet on July 10, while on July 12, emergency room under 108 service will be commissioned from Canacona.
