MEETINGS GALORE, but no end to PARKING WOES

Several meetings have remained inconclusive to end the parking problem in Sanguem. Residents have pinned their hope on the third round

Parking problem is going from bad to worse in Sanguem and even after two successive meetings by the Sanguem Municipal Council the issue stands unresolved.
After having a brief meeting with the Traffic Cell in-charge Sajjan Dessai, which was attended by councillor Romualdo Fernandes, President of Sanguem Rickshaw Motorcycle Association Ramesh Sanguemkar and  the representative of the vendors community earlier last week, a special meeting was held on Tuesday November 28 in the office of the Sanguem Municipal Council to break the deadlock over the problem of parking in the town area.
The special meeting was attended by Sanguem MLA Prasad Gaonkar, Chairperson Suryadatt Naik, Chief Officer Pramod Dessai and councilors of Sanguem Municipal Council.
As the meeting remained inconclusive, it is now decided to convene yet another meeting to be attended by the traffic Officials, to come to a final conclusion over the parking menace in the town area.
At the meeting held on Tuesday, detailed deliberations were held over the possible solutions and certain places in the town area which could be used as designated parking lots for the parking of vehicles were discussed.
Rumualdo proposed to issue necessary instructions to the officials attached to Government Office Complex, Sanguem which is located in the heart of the town to park their vehicles inside the complex.
It is pertinent to note that in spite of having enough open space all around the building, the vehicles used by the department heads and others are seen parked in ‘No Parking’ zone in front of the complex.
A suggestion was also put forth to shift the fish market behind the municipal building on permanent basis.  The fish market is presently housed in a temporary shed located by the side of the National Highway proceeding to Netravali Village from Sanguem.
On account of the strategic location of the fish market almost touches the National Highway and people visiting the fish market are found recklessly parking their vehicles on the Highway, causing a major traffic hazard.
The shifting of the fish market to the new shed will solve this problem.
There is also a suggestion from senior citizens from Sanguem to use the open place in front of the Sanguem Church, which was earlier used as a play area for children, to convert into a parking lot.
Senior citizens claim that this place could ideally be used as a parking lot.
After the Tuesday’s meeting with the MLA, the Council has now decided to have a third round of meeting by end of next meeting which shall also be attended by the officials from the Traffic Cell.
