VALPOI: Shel Melauli villagers on Monday launched their second agitation near the Guleli Panchayat demanding withdrawal of criminal cases against them.
The locals accused the BJP government of failing to solve their demand to withdraw the criminal cases against them during the IIT agitation. They demanded that the village land mentioned as ‘IIT’ on the 1/14 Form, which belong to the locals be removed and called for giving them full ownership of their ancestors’ land.
They alleged that the BJP government has neglected their demands which forced them to launch their second agitation against the Valpoi MLA and the BJP Government. The villagers said the agitation will continue till the government fulfils their demands.
Around 300 villagers arrived for the special gram sabha at the Guleli Panchayat premises to discuss the problems faced by Shel Melauli, Paikul, Murmune, Dhada and Maigine locals due to the IIT agitation in Melauli. Surprisingly, the panchas and panchayat officials remained absent.
With no officials turning up till 6 pm, the villagers returned home.
“Valpoi MLA and the present BJP government are playing with our feelings. We will not keep quiet. Since the past several months, we have been requesting and pleading the government to withdraw the criminal cases and give us the ownership of our land, but government is not ready to fulfil our demands. The government is harassing us with the help of local panchayat and local MLA,” complained say villagers.
“If the government fails to fulfil our major three demands then we will teach it lesson in forthcoming polls. We request all Goans to support us in our agitation,” they urged.
